This year’s conference and exhibition continued to expand and upgrade, and the exhibition scale, the number of exhibitors, the number of highlights and the number of new products launched all reached record highs. The conference not only focused on the innovative development of artificial intelligence technology, but also discussed in depth how to promote the development and application of intelligent technology through good governance.
On July 4th, 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and High-level Conference on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence arrived at Shanghai World Expo Park as scheduled. Thousands of industry big coffees gathered in Shanghai to discuss cutting-edge technologies, industrial trends and good governance in the field of artificial intelligence. This conference includes four sections: conference forum, exhibition, awards and competitions, and intelligent experience. A new generation of artificial intelligence has injected new kinetic energy into economic and social development and is profoundly changing people’s production and lifestyle. The new technology, new format and new application of artificial intelligence have become an important driving force for the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, but at the same time, it is also facing a series of new issues in law, security, employment, ethics and so on, so it has become a key issue at this conference.
Kai Wei, director of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence of China Information and Communication Research Institute, said: "Minimize the risks in the application of artificial intelligence and ensure that it always serves people’s development direction. People-oriented, intelligent and good, not only represents the main line of artificial intelligence development, but also represents the purpose of governance. "
China attaches great importance to the safety management of artificial intelligence and has implemented a series of pragmatic measures. Last October, China also proposed the Global Artificial Intelligence Governance Initiative. On July 1st this year, the first resolution on international cooperation in artificial intelligence capacity-building sponsored by China was unanimously adopted by the General Assembly. The resolution emphasizes that the development of artificial intelligence should adhere to the principle of people-oriented, intelligent and good, and benefit mankind. All these measures show China’s responsible attitude towards the development and governance of artificial intelligence and its important leading role.
In order to gather global wisdom, the conference set up three main forums and more than 10 sub-forums, covering key topics such as AI ethical governance, big model, embodied intelligence, autonomous driving, investment and financing, and educating talents. In addition, a high-level conference on global governance of artificial intelligence was held for the first time. The participants brainstormed to jointly promote intelligence for good, international cooperation, common governance and sharing, and contribute China’s wisdom to the world.
This year’s conference focused on key areas such as large models, computing power, robots, and autonomous driving, and concentrated on displaying a number of the latest achievements in the innovative application of "Artificial Intelligence+",with more than 1,500 exhibits. Autopilot is an important scene of artificial intelligence application. Through the application of intelligent road network technology and autonomous driving technology, artificial intelligence is expected to greatly reduce traffic accidents and promote the comprehensive reform of transportation quality, so it is highly valued by all countries.

The most test of unmanned driving is its ability to deal with emergencies, such as encountering pedestrians crossing the road. The reason for accurate identification is that four laser radars, seven cameras and two millimeter-wave radars are installed in the car, which constantly feed back the detected information to the on-board computer, and the computer makes the car make corresponding actions after calculation, thus realizing unmanned driving.
At present, at least 16 cities in China have allowed to test driverless cars on public roads. In order to promote the healthy development of autonomous driving and embody the people-oriented purpose, in March last year, Shanghai Pudong New Area promulgated the first local regulations on innovative application of intelligent networked vehicles in China, which consolidated the legal protection. The insiders believe that national supervision, enterprise self-discipline and social supervision are necessary, and good governance can make this emerging industry develop continuously and healthily.
Embodied intelligence is the key section of this exhibition. Embodied intelligence is like giving a machine its own "body" and "brain", which can perceive the world, learn knowledge, and then react like a human. For example, compared with quadruped robot, this hexapod robot has obvious advantages: more stability, greater load and stronger adaptability. It has a unique structural design and the blessing of artificial intelligence. Through deep learning, it can perceive the surrounding environment and perform a variety of tasks.
The biggest application scenario of hexapod robot is in a complex outdoor environment. It can always ensure that three legs touch the ground and three legs move. This special three-three gait walking mode greatly enhances the stability and enables it to conduct inspection without stopping. In addition, it is also a Hercules, with a maximum load of 100 kilograms.
Because of its great strength and steady walking, it can be equipped with large-scale testing equipment to replace human beings to complete arduous, dangerous, repetitive and heavy tasks and become a good assistant of human beings. Whether it is industrial inspection, or field exploration and rescue, hexapod robots can show their talents. Many experts, including Academician Yao Qizhi, winner of Turing Award, believe that embodied intelligence is the next development direction of artificial intelligence, so it must be well used and managed, and good intelligence can be promoted by good governance.
At this conference, dozens of intelligent products with body were exhibited, including quadruped, hexapod, wheeled and humanoid, and all kinds of robots were in full bloom. The data shows that the market size of China’s robot industry is expected to approach 600 billion yuan in 2027.
Since the introduction of ChatGPT in the United States, the world has ushered in a wave of large-scale model technology, and some media even called this year "the first year of large-scale model application." At this conference, Iflytek, Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu and other industry giants have exhibited their large model products. Aauto Quicker brought a video generation model "Keling" this time.
Users only need to input words or pictures, and Keling can automatically generate a high-definition video with a maximum length of 2 minutes. It can also continuously extend the length of the video, up to 3 minutes.
These are all kinds of videos generated by Keling. In the future, this technology will be widely used in film and television, advertising, games, education and other industries, saving a lot of manpower, equipment and capital costs. However, it is precisely because the threshold for use has been greatly reduced that good governance is even more needed to prevent abuse.
Iflytek’s strong point is intelligent speech recognition. Not long ago, their "Key Technologies and Industrialization of Multilingual Intelligent Voice" just won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. Therefore, their Spark Model has also integrated this technology, making it a smart assistant around everyone. Fast multilingual intelligent translation is a sharp weapon for international communication.
